Welcome Letter from New President - Nick Hooper

Dear Bulls,

It is my pleasure to write to you as your new President after being elected at our recent AGM. I look forward to representing the interests of Club Members and leading a fantastic Committee that have put their hands up to be part of running what is an ever growing Club.

On behalf of all members, I offer our thanks to Shaun Dowling who has been our President for the last three seasons. He has done a substantial amount of work and handled many challenging issues with aplomb. Shaun continues on the Committee as Past President.

Your Committee for the coming season is as follows:

  • President - Nick Hooper

  • Vice President - Jim Kouryialis

Kooka will look after collection of subs through the season as well being our Sponsors liaison.
  • Secretary - Andrew Thorne

Thorney continues in the role and does a great deal of work behinds the scenes.
  • Treasurer - Andrew Lammardo.

Mards adds some much needed youth to the Committee. He takes over from Matt Harman - thanks for your great work over a few seasons in this role and delivering a healthy bank balance for the Club.
  • Cricket - Steve Perkins.

Perko continues in this role and will be developing it further this season. He will chair the Selection of teams and be supported by Andrew Hillyer, David McKenzie and Ian McRae.
  • Juniors - John Sandy

Jonty takes over from me in running the Juniors with the support of Joanne Colgan. They are already off and running with the Junior Registration day being held and over 80 registrations received. We may have a record number of teams in the Juniors this year.
  • Social and Bar - Adrian Waters

Wal will continue to run the bar and takes on Social as well. He has assembled a team behind him but is always looking for more support. Stay tuned for announcements on the Social program for the coming season.
  • Facilities - Kieran Colgan

Kieran's work around the Club is well known and he will do a great job here. If you notice something that needs doing, firstly, do it yourself, but if it needs his dab hand, let him or me know. Phil Quirk will provide him with support.
  • Apparel - Darren Earp

Earpy has been active in the off season and with an order already placed we hope to have a good supply of gear before the start of the season. Our good cash position has allowed us to make this order now with a wide range of well priced gear.
  • Communications - Luke and Mick Allen

The twins further reduce the average age of the Committee in taking on this new or perhaps modified role to look after the website, the App, Facebook and the like.
We have developed a great structure for the Committee with clear responsibilities for the many and varied functions of the Club. If you have any queries on any of these matters through the season please see either myself or the relevant Manager.

Subscriptions have been struck for the coming season at $150. They have gone up so as to cover the ever increasing costs of weekly cricket. They remain cheap when compared to other clubs. In accordance with Club rules this was debated and decided upon at the AGM. It was decided that subs need to be paid by 31 October otherwise the amount owed rises to $200. This principle is the same as last year so that everyone gets their subs paid in a timely manner to assist the Club with cashflow. If this causes personal hardship please see myself or Kooka.

At the AGM it was unanimously agreed that the focus of the Club would be on achieving success in the higher grades, most notably the First XI. This objective will drive many of the decisions of the Committee and the Cricket Manager. Whilst still remaining a Club that caters for cricketers of all ages and all abilities, a renewed focus on developing our best talent to achieve First XI success will drive many of our actions. We will talk to this during the season.

We will field 7 Senior teams this season and have nominated to provide teams in the ECA in McGibbon, A, B, D, E, LOC2 and LOC5 grades. The Club will announce the team Captains very shortly, but I can announce that our First XI captain of last season, Mick Paolini, will not be playing with us this season. We thank Mick for his service and look forward to him returning to the Club in coming seasons.

The season will commence on 10 October this year due to the delayed AFL Grand Final. Pre-season training will commence at Maddocks in Blackburn on Sunday 16 August from 11am-12noon before we commence outdoor training in September.

I am looking forward to the season ahead and hope you are too. If you have any questions please contact me on 0413 702 956 or at n.hooper@taylorsds.com.au.
